From June 11–17, a personal QR code will be mandatory to enter, cross through, or reside in the security zone around Évian-les-Bains. Complete guide.
From June 15–17, 2026, Évian-les-Bains (Haute-Savoie, France) will host the G7 summit, bringing together the heads of state and government of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan, and the United Kingdom, alongside the President of the European Commission and the President of the European Council. This is the second time the lakeside spa town has hosted such a summit — the first was in 2003, when Russia was still participating as a G8 member.
The summit will focus on global economic imbalances and the reform of international partnership systems. Around 5,000 people are expected between official delegations, accredited journalists and organizing staff. For the region, the logistical impact will be considerable: from June 11 at midnight until June 17 at 8 PM, an unprecedented security apparatus will be in place.
The Haute-Savoie prefecture has defined two distinct perimeters around the summit venue, each with specific access rules.
| Zone | Perimeter | Access | QR code required? |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🔴 Summit Zone | Immediate surroundings of the Évian Resort | Official accreditation only (delegations, media, staff) | No — specific accreditation |
| 🔵 Extended protection zone | Évian-les-Bains + Neuvecelle + Publier | Residents and authorized persons with G7 Pass | Yes — mandatory for everyone |
| ⚪ Free zone | Beyond the extended perimeter | Free — standard checks possible | No |
The G7 Pass is a personal, free access authorization issued as a QR code. It must be presented at all checkpoints set up at the entry and within the extended protection zone. This system is directly inspired by the one used during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which had already demonstrated its effectiveness in managing flows within a reinforced security perimeter.
"This G7 Pass will facilitate and streamline law enforcement checks within the enhanced protection zone." — Emmanuelle Dubée, Prefect of Haute-Savoie, April 27, 2026
The G7 Pass application must be made exclusively online, on the official platform pass-g7.gouv.fr. The platform is expected to open registrations from early May 2026 onwards.
The G7 Pass is required of all persons over 13 years old wishing to access or cross the extended protection zone. This affects a wide range of profiles:
The G7 organization causes significant transport disruptions in the region from June 11–17 inclusive.
Rail services between Thonon-les-Bains and Évian-les-Bains will be interrupted from June 11 at midnight until June 17 inclusive. The reason: maintaining the service would have required organizing QR code checks at Évian station, creating large gatherings incompatible with the security setup. SNCF will run replacement coaches between the two stations, with no intermediate stops. Note: passengers heading toward Évian will need to present their G7 Pass at departure.
The Évian jetty will be closed and the CGN N1 Évian–Lausanne service suspended. Connections will be rerouted to Thonon-les-Bains and Lugrin, where a temporary jetty will be set up for the occasion. A park-and-ride will be available at Lugrin to allow passengers to reach the jetty.
The departmental road RD1005 running along Lake Geneva will remain open, but access to the extended zone will be filtered by checkpoints (QR code verification, identity check, possible vehicle search). Traffic jams are to be expected. Alternative routes will be set up to bypass the most sensitive area.
The G7 coincides with baccalaureate exam season, which has led authorities to make specific arrangements for around 600 students from Évian.
Contrary to some initial concerns, shops will remain open throughout the entire perimeter affected by the security setup. Authorities nevertheless urge professionals to plan their logistics ahead of time.
The G7 Pass will take the form of a QR code that you'll need to present at each checkpoint. If you have any doubt about your code's readability — particularly if you've printed it at low resolution or on poor-quality paper — the DoItQR Scanner lets you test it directly from your browser, without installing any app.
